Certified Recovery Specialist

The Certified Recovery Support Specialist is a vital part of the Integrated Behavioral Health initiative, the Certified Recovery Support Specialist works from the perspective of “having been there.” Through their lived experience with recovery, they lend unique insight into substance abuse and what makes recovery possible. The specialist will provide peer support for clients, patients and advocates, and assists in their recovery and independence. They are trained to assist their peers in skills building, goal setting, problem solving, setting up and sustaining mutual self-help groups, and in helping their peers, build their own self-directed recovery tools. A critical role is supporting peers in developing a Wellness Recovery Action Plan to promote their ongoing recovery and whole health. The Certified Recovery Support Specialist actively supports BCHC in its efforts to maintain designation as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and as a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Participates actively in BCHC’s mission to provide exceptional patient-centered primary and preventive healthcare for all residents of Berks County, regardless of patient status.
